Prof. Dr. Mozart Marins

I am a professor and researcher at the Biotechnology Unit of the University of Ribeirão Preto (UNAERP), where I am the leader of the Molecular Genetics and Bioinformatics research group.
My Bachelor of Science in Biology and PhD in Science were obtained at the University of São Paulo, where I studied from 1985 to 1995, with a two-year period at the University of Osnabrück, Germany. Subsequently, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Leeds, England, from 1997 to 1999. In 2000, I assumed the position of Full Professor at the Biotechnology Unit of the UNAERP. Between 2007 and 2014 I coordinated the Superior course of Technology in Biotechnology, where I was also professor of the disciplines of Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Advanced Topics in Biotechnology. In 2011, I started the PET-Biotechnology group at UNAERP, which distributed more than 12 IC scholarships for undergraduate students, of which I was also the first tutor. I have also been involved in the Master's and Doctoral Program in Biotechnology at UNAERP, since its creation in 2001, as a professor in the DNA Technology discipline, member of the Post-Graduation Commission (2003-present). Currently I teach the subjects of Genetic and Microscopic Aspects of Tissues in the course of Pharmaceutical Sciences and as tutor of the Circulatory System module (PBL methodology) in the Medicine course of UNAERP.

My main reearch interest
Molecular bases of the anticancer activity of natural and synthetic molecules, aiming to identify new therapeutic targets for cancer treatment.

Additional Information
I have previously served as managing director of two molecular diagnostics companies and as a consultant to a research and development company in biotechnology. I have already had newspapers pieces, participation in TV and radio programs to publicize my research activities. I have already guided more than 20 postgraduate students (master's and doctoral), received postgraduate and post-doc scholarships, grants for research funding totaling more than R$ 3.0 million and I was involved in several other funded research projects from colleagues in my department. Together with my research group (GMB), as the corresponding author or co-author, I have published several papers in scientific journals.

In my free time, I enjoy reading history romances, traveling, scuba diving and cooking for the family.
